Abstract

884,036. Copper-plating baths. DEHYDAG DEUTSCHE HYDRURWERKE G.m.b.H. April 15, 1958 [April 16, 1957], No. 11888/58. Class 41. To a copper-plating bath is added (1) a levelling agent consisting of a thiourea derivative preferably having one or more alkyl or aryl groups, together with (2) a lustring agent containing one or more C atoms linked exclusively to 3 hetero atoms of which one may be -S-R-SO 3 H, or -N-R-SO 3 H, where R is an aliphatic radical, and the other is a sulphur atom. The sulphonic group may be replaced by another group promoting water solubility. Such lustring agents are described in Specifications 762,257, 817,133, 823,152 and 847,841. Examples are: N : N-dimethyldithio carbamic acid-n-propyl ester-#-sulphonic acid and dithio carbamic acid-S-methyl-ester N - ethyl - N - butyl - # - sulphonic acid. The thiourea derivative may contain hydroxy or ether groups, e.g. N-cycloalkyl-N<SP>1</SP>-alkyl thiourea or N - phenyl - - N<SP>1</SP> - hydroxyethyl - urea. Optional additions include amino compounds, e.g. 1 :3-propylene diamine as described in Specifications 807,574 and 884,035; halogenated tertiary amino compounds as described in Specifications 806,403 and 815,908, and wetting agents. The base metal may be pre-treated with an acid pickle as described in Specification 784,091.
