Abstract

883,098. Casting-machines. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 14, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29599/58. Class 83 (1). A combined melting and pouring device comprises a mould or a crucible both fixed to a common axle, and of hollow-walled construction to provide coolant channels. The copper crucible 1 and mould 4 are fixed to a hollow shaft 6 through which coolant may be passed. The assembly is rotated by a hand wheel 22 and mounted on a base plate 11 which may form the base plate of a furnace for melting in vacuo or an inert &c. atmosphere. A cup 30 may contain a getter. The melting may be by means of a blow-torch or by arc. High-frequency vibrations may be applied to the mould, crucible and other coolant channels to improve the efficiency of the coolant system.
