882,319. Adding aluminium to steels. CLEVELAND ELECTRO METALS CO. Nov. 4, 1957 [Nov. 13, 1956; June 13, 1957; July 22, 1957; Oct. 16, 1957], No. 34379/57. Class 82(1). [Also in Group XXII] A method of treating molten steel as it is poured into an ingot mould comprises suspending a vertical elongated aluminium bar substantially spaced from the inner long sides of the mould and unequally spaced from the inner short sides of the mould, and continuously pouring the steel in such a manner that the stream does not contact the bar, the side surface area of the bar and the fill rate of the mould being such that the lower end of the bar is submerged below the upper surface of the steel as it rises in the mould. The aluminium bar 12, which is claimed in Specification 882,319 which is referred to may be suspended by a hanger which rests upon the top surface of the mould 10, or which is suspended from a hot top 85. Small amounts of other elements may be introduced by alloying them with the aluminium.
