Abstract
880,800. Coating by vapour deposition. EDWARDS HIGH VACUUM Ltd. May 5, 1959 [May 31, 1958], No. 15313/58. Class 82(2) [Also in Group XL (a)] The inner surface of a cathode ray tube is coated with vapour from a source mounted for rotary movement about the axis of the tube at a predetermined radial distance therefrom. As shown, arm 6 of adjustable length pivots on bus-bars 8, being urged away from the vertical by spring 10. The assembly is rotated by pulley 14 at 30 r.p.m., current being supplied to volatalise aluminium from tungsten coil 5 by way of brush 15, coaxial conductors 13 and 16, bus-bars 8, and arm, 6, while the tube is evacuated by a a vacuum pump connected to manifold 1. The invention is also suitable for the application of luminescent screen material, in which case the tungsten coil may be replaced by a heated crucible, boat, or close spiral.
