Abstract
879,863. Fuel elements. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 15, 1959 [Dec. 18, 1958], No. 40904/58. Class 39(4). A fuel element comprises a body of fissile material enclosed in a can 5 supported by a beam 9 within a graphite sleeve 4 as disclosed in Specification 857,422, the can having straight fins 7 and four helical swirlers 8 extending between supports 15, 16. To permit removal of the unit 4, 5 from a coolant channel 2 a 3-leg lifting spider 11 is retained in slots 18 formed in the inner wall of sleeve 4 by a screwed graphite collar 14 and mild steel washer 12.
