Abstract
802,806. Nuclear reactors. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Aug. 23, 1956 [Aug. 26, 1955], No. 10366/58. Divided out of 802,805. Class 39(4). In a fuel element for a nuclear reactor comprising a sheath enclosing a body of fissile or fertile material, a series of external projections is provided on the outer surface of the sheath, the individual projections being spaced apart both longitudinally and circumferentially of the sheath ; the projections are preferably radial pins such as 12, Fig. 2, and serve to centralise the sheath in a cylindrical aperture in the moderator of the reactor. The sheath may be spaced from a bar 10 of fissile material by longitudinally spaced rings 13 of triangular cross-section, or by other means described in the parent Specification.
