Abstract
957,791. Reactors. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Aug. 29, 1960 [Aug. 27, 1959], No. 29716/60. Heading G6C. An experimental reactor has a central zone in which a lattice under investigation is put and a surrounding zone of enriched fuel and moderator, the enriched fuel being radially adjustable in position to produce a desired neutron spectrum and flux. Fig. 2 shows a natural U lattice 3 in D 2 O moderator surrounded by enriched fuel 4 in H 2 O moderator and enriched fuel 5, 6 at the ends of the core; the fuel 5, 6 may be replaced by neutron sources. A neutron absorbing solution or a solid neutron absorbing sheet, mesh or rods may be put between the zones, and the moderator-fuel ratio of the outer zone may be varied or graphite may be inserted.
