Abstract

879,588. Seats frames; upholstery. MILLER Inc., HERMAN. Feb. 6, 1959 [Sept. 29, 1958], No. 4325/59. Classes 52(2) and 52(4). A chair 1 has a frame 3 consisting of a pair of side rails 4 forming seat section support 5, backrest support 6 and head-rest support 7, spaced apart by spreader members 20, 21 each side rail 4 being of H-shape to provide channels 8, 9 into one of which the edge of a web 40 stretched between the rails is, inserted, the side margin of the web having a pocket 42 within which is a stiffener 43. The ends of the web are coiled into front and rear terminal rolls 44, 45 and the edges of the web wrapped into sockets 13, 14 and secured by tightening screws 16. The edges of the web may be additionally secured at intervals by means of driven or threaded pins. The web may be of a woven material or of leather or of polyvinyl chloride or of composite structure such as sheets separated by a layer of foam rubber.
