Abstract

864,301. Upholstery, seat bottoms and backs. GOMME Ltd., E., and GOMME, E. D. Jan. 15, 1959 [Jan. 15, 1958; Feb. 19, 1958], Nos. 3501/58 and 5462/58. Classes 52(2) and 52(4). A chair with padded upholstered seat and back rest has a metal seat panel secured by screws 16 to corner brackets or a flat plywood seat panel supported in grooves cut in the chair frame side rails 10-13 and a sheet of foamed polyvnyl chloride or foamed polyurethane padding placed over the panel and a pliable cover sheet 21 of thermoplastic material placed over the padding and welded to the seat panel along the line 22, the padding being caused to fall along the weld line and become bonded to the cover sheet and to the seat panel. With the plywood panel the cover sheet and padding are welded to a sheet of thermoplastic material and the complete assembly adhesively secured to the seat panel. For the back rest a semi-rigid thermoplastic backing sheet 25 has placed over it a sheet of polyurethane padding 26 and a cover sheet 27 of polyvinyl chloride the sheets 25, 27 being welded together along line 28 and the sheet edges, straps 29 being welded to the upper edges and folded around the heads of bolts 30 secured to the back rest uprights by nuts 31. The lower edge of sheet 25 has press-stud members 33 to engage mating members on a cross member and support the unit at its lower edge.
