Abstract
877,625. Valves. HALL & CO. Ltd., MATTHEW. Aug. 29, 1958, No. 27869/58. Class 135. A self-releasing valve, such as a deluge valve for use in a sprinkler system comprises a pivoted clapper 14 held closed against fluid-pressure by a primary pivoted lever 15, engaged at its free end by a secondary pivoted lever 16, in turn engaged by a third lever 21, attached to a shaft 10 journalled in the valve housing and normally prevented from rotating by a locking device. The locking device comprises a counterweighted lever 31 attached to the other end of the shaft 10 and having a detent engageable by a plunger rod 40 attached to a diaphragm 42 by which the rod 40 may be moved out of engagement with the detent on reduction of pressure in a trigger line connected to a port 34. Leakage from around the shaft 36, which has a pin 26 engaging a helical groove in the housing so that it moves axially in the housing as it is rotated is prevented in the position shown by a washer 14<SP>1</SP> engaging a seating 45 and in the open-position by a taper-collar 51 engaging a corresponding face formed in the housing. After operation the valve must be reset manually through an inspection cover.
