A driving arrangement for calendering rollers, e.g. each mounted on a shaft 6<SP>1</SP> ... 9<SP>1</SP>, comprises independent driving means, e.g. motors 10 ... 13, for each roller, and means, e.g. a clutch 26, for selectively uncoupling one roller, e.g. that on the shaft 7<SP>1</SP>, from its motor 11 and coupling it to the motor 12 of another roller. The transmission to the shaft 7<SP>1</SP> is from a shaft 17 via gears 18, 19, shaft 20, gears 21, 22, shaft 23 and gears 24, 25, and the shaft 17 may be coupled selectively to a gear 16 on a shaft 27 driven by the motor 12 or directly to the motor 11 by operation of the clutch 26. The gears 15, 16 may be interposed at any position within, or after, the gear transmission 18 ... 25. The rollers may be employed for continuously laminating a foil with a fabric.
