Abstract

875,934. Sliding clasp fasteners. PLASCO Ltd. Nov. 26, 1958 [March 12, 1958; April 21, 1958], No. 38085/58. Class 44. A separable fastener includes stringer tapes 10 having scoops 11 spaced along adjacent edge portions of the stringer tapes to comprise stringers and a slider movable along the stringers to couple and uncouple the stringers, in which the tapes each have a beaded edge and a ribbon, tape, cord or strand extending longitudinally of each stringer is stitched directly to the mountings and portion 13 of each scoop of each stringer to retain the scoops firmly on the beaded edge of the stringer tape. As shown in Fig. 1 each scoop has recesses 14 to receive the threads of the stitching. In Fig. 4 which shows a modified embodiment each of the scoops is provided with an aperture for receiving the threads of the stitching. Where ribbon or tapes are used, there can be only one on one face of each stringer or alternatively one can be provided on each face; in the former case the face of each scoop which carries no ribbon or tape has a groove to receive the threads of the stitching. In a modification, Fig. 8, a cord or strand is substituted for the ribbon or tape, and each scoop has a seat to receive the cord or strand. The cord or strand does not extend over the whole face of the scoop and the uncovered portion of the face provides a surface for receiving a shoulder on the slider which prevents the slider bearing on the cord or strand. In each construction the slider is provided with a central rib which bears on the scoop.
