Abstract

1,036,454. Sliding clasp fasteners. FLEXIGRIP Ltd. May 7, 1963 [Sept. 21, 1962], No. 18012/63. Heading E2S. A flexible strip fastener comprises a pair of flexible and resilient fastening elements 13, 14 each having a mutually engaging locking portion 15 or 16 integral with a flexible strip 19 or 20 and integral with a separating lug 22 or 23 which projects outwardly from the strip in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of the strip but displaced from the locking portion such that when the locking portions engage one another, the separating lugs project outwardly from the strips. As shown, the strip portion 20 is joined to the lug 23 and its associated portion 16 by a hinge connection 21. The slider 30, which may be of metal or plastics material comprises a back portion 31, side portions 34, 35 bottom portions 36, 37 and closing portions 40, 41 all of which taper towards the rear end of the slider, the side and bottom portions defining channels 38, 39 which engage the lugs 22, 23 of the fastener elements 13, 14. A V-shaped depression 42 in the back portion, engages in use, between the lugs 22, 23 to assist the pulling apart of the elements. In another construction, Figs. 8-11 (not shown), the fastener elements comprise a single rib interlocking with a co-operatively shaped groove. An attaching strip extends directly from each interlocking element. A slider for this construction is similar to that of Fig. 4, but includes a finger projecting downwardly, from the apex of the V-shaped depression. In another form of slider, Fig. 12 (not shown), the back portion is flat and a finger extends downwardly from a cutaway portion thereof.
