Abstract

Slime-forming micro-organisms in water &c. used in the paper or textile industries are reduced or destroyed by adding to the water, continuously or batchwise, 5 to 50 p.p.m. of one or more ether-aldehydes of the formula <FORM:0873951/VI/1> where R is an hydrocarbyl group and R1 an hydrogen atom or an hydrocarbyl group, preferably an alkyl group of less than 6 carbon atoms, e.g. a b -alkoxy-, or a b -alkenyloxy-propionaldehyde.
