873,280. Coke-ovens. STACKEL, W. Dec. 22, 1959 [Dec. 22, 1958], No. 43589/59. Class 51 (2). In a coke oven battery with cross-over regenerators and two rows of twin flues running between each oven having rich gas nozzles of variable height in said flues, each twin flue has only high-level or only low-level nozzles respectively. Regenerator sections are connected to flues so that all flues are fired in the same direction or so that flue legs with high-level nozzles are fired oppositely to those with low-level nozzles. The heating flues may be arranged so that high and low-level nozzles alternate in pairs axially of an oven. Firing can be arranged from coke side to pusher side of flue pairs during a half-regenerative period and reversed for the other half regenerative period.
