Abstract
829,619. Coke-ovens. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., H. Sept. 5, 1958 [Sept. 5, 1957], No. 28634/58. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a regeneratively heated coke oven fired by rich gas, the heating walls 2 are divided into groups of vertical flues 4, 4a, and 5, 5a, with top connections 13, calibrated rich gas nozzles 15 and controllable air ports 6, 8 being provided at the base of each flue, and adjusted so that one flue has an excess of gas, its twin having an excess of air, thereby inducing a secondary combustion at the connections and thus evening the heating effect. Flues 4, 4a are connected to rich gas conduits 9 and flues 5, 5a to rich gas conduits 9a. During one heating period flues 4, 4a receive heated primary air from regenerator 3 through ports 6, flues 5, 5a discharging waste gases into regenerator 3a through ports 8. The size of air ports 6, 8 is controlled by movable bricks (not shown). The middle flues of a group, and adjacent outer flues of groups are interconnected by bottom re-circulating ducts 12, whereby incoming preheated air is mixed with waste gases before it contacts rich gas leaving nozzles 15. The invention may also be applied to under-jet ovens, compound ovens, and ovens with divided regenerators connected by " scissor " flues.
