Abstract
820,102. Recirculating combustion products in coke ovens. KOPPERS & CO. Inc. Oct. 30, 1957 [Nov. 14, 1956], No. 33891/57. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a regeneratively heated coke oven of the compound underjet type with waste gas recirculation ducts immovably formed in the concrete mat supporting the silica oven brickwork, the rich gas nozzles are fixed in the silica brickwork of the regenerator division walls and the riser pipes are freely movable in passages in the concrete. Rich gas risers 19 in the silica regenerator division walls communicate with the heating flues at the side nearest to alternate dividing walls 9, and the risers to the flues on either side of the other dividing walls 8 are joined at their lower ends by branches 47 in the silica brickwork. Rich gas nozzles 30, Fig. 4, fixed in the silica brick, communicate with the risers 19 below venturi nozzle 33, and the riser pipes 29 are free to move in spaces 38 in the concrete mat 20. Recirculation ducts 28 in the planes of the flue dividing walls 8 are immovably fixed in the concrete mat 20 and have upwardly directed openings 50 at their ends communicating with a downward directed opening 49 extending from the branches 47 of adjacent gas risers to the bottom of the silica brickwork.
