Abstract
872,229. Spray carburetters. CONTINENTAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 15, 1959, No. 12765/59. Class 7(3). A continuous flow fuel injection nozzle 26 situated in each branch of an intake manifold is provided with a removable jet 36 opening into a discharge passage 30 which is connected through ports 41 to a space 40 connected to atmosphere, whereby at idling the entry of air prevents fuel being drawn out by the intake manifold suction and at normal running the flow of fuel through jet 36 induces a flow of aerating air through ports 41. The fuel is supplied by a pump 21 to a fuel manifold 24 connected to the injectors by pipes 28 and is metered by a valve 22 connected to the throttle valve. The air chamber 40 in the nozzle is surrounded by a filter 45 and a dust cap 46. In a modification, Fig. 5, for supercharged engines, a lightly loaded check valve 54 closes, when the supercharging pressure rises, to prevent air and fuel escaping through the air inlet chamber 51.
