Abstract
870,429. Nozzles. JAY, K. W. Sept. 28, 1959, No. 32878/59. Class 69 (3). [Also in Group XI] A fluid nozzle comprises a barrel 10 which is closed by an end-plate 11 provided with a central orifice 12 -and at - the other end is secured to an end cap 14 provided with a bore 17 connected to a fluid conduit 18; a piston 19 slidable in the barrel is biased by means of a spring 20 away from the orifice 12 and is provided with a hollow axial extension 23 terminated in a second orifice 24 coaxial with first orifice, the piston being movable under the influence of fluid pressure in the conduit from a position in which the first and second orifices are in series and fluid flows from the conduit through the second orifice, barrel and first orifice to a second position in which the second orifice lies within the first orifice and fluid flows from the conduit only through the barrel and second orifice, so as to adapt the nozzle to use with a wider range of fluid pressure.
