Abstract
928,629. Spray burners. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 16, 1961 [Dec. 12, 1960], No. 41025/61. Class 75 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] In a fuel spray nozzle, a finned valve body 62 slides in a cylindrical valve guide 56 and is moved by fuel pressure against the action of a spring 68 to allow the passage of fuel through the valve guide. The valve body 62 comprises four fins 78 on a stem 74 over which is fitted a valve head 64 having two V-shaped slots 84 which are aligned with two diametrically opposed fins. The spring 68 acts on the valve body through a seat 72 shaped to engage the contoured end of the head 64, and movement of the body 62 in the direction of action of the spring is limited by a pin 66 mounted in the valve guide. The nozzle comprises concentric low and high capacity spray tips 18 and 16, the former always being fed by fuel from a filter 20 via a passage 28, tangential ports and a swirl chamber. As the fuel pressure acting on the valve body 62 increases it moves the latter against the action of spring 68 causing the V-shaped slots 84 to emerge from the valve guide 56 so that fuel can pass from the filter 20 into a chamber 24 and thence through tangential ports to the high capacity spray tip.
