Abstract
Ethylene is polymerized on to a support which is previously submitted to an ionizing irradiation such as gamma rays or high energy electrons, the support consisting of at least one paraffinic compound and the polymerization process being carried out at 0 DEG to 300 DEG C. and at a pressure of from 40 to 600 kg. per sq. cm. "Paraffinic compound" is defined and includes higher aliphatic hydrocarbons, polypropylene, polyisobutylene, mixtures thereof with polyethylene, and distillation residues from Fischer Tropsch processes, but excludes the use of polyethylene alone. The irradiated paraffinic compound may be in solution or suspension in a liquid medium during the polymerization reaction.
