Abstract
Propylene is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst containing an amine and the reaction product of titanium trichloride and an aluminium trialkyl. The amine may be an alkylamine, or a tert, aromatic or heterocyclic base. The polymerization is preferably effected in an inert solvent or diluent such as pentane, hexane, cyclohexane, heptane or octane. The Specification contains a list of suitable amines of which triethylamine, n-butyl amine, N-dimethyl aniline, pyridine, and gamma collidine are preferred. The polypropylene may be purified by treatment with isopropanol containing 10% hydrogen chloride and 0,01% acetylacetone. Specification 828,791 is referred to.
