Abstract
867,919. Securing railway rails. MOLYNEUX, G. June 17, 1958 [July 9, 1957], No. 21668/57. Class 104 (2). Rail securing means comprises a rigid plate 3 through which passes a bolt 5 and having a portion 3a overlapping the top and abutting the side edge of the flange 2 of a rail 1 to be secured to a support 6. The securing means includes means such as a nut 7 to force the plate down on to the rail and the support and also includes a cam member 4 which has a cam surface engaging a corresponding surface on the plate, the cam being rotatable about the bolt 5 and the arrangement being such that rotation of the cam without preliminary axial movement thereof produces a lateral shift of the railengaging portion of the plate 3. As shown, the cam 4 comprises a circular cylinder fitted into a corresponding recess in the plate 3, these corresponding cylindrical surfaces being eccentric to the bolt 5. Above the plate the cam member 4 has a polygonal flange 4a engageable by a tool for making the required adjustment to the lateral position of the plate. The Provisional Specification also describes constructions in which (a) the plate fits against both the flange and the web of the rail, and (b) the plate is circular in plan view but eccentric to the bolt, the cam member being omitted.
