Abstract

1471023 Securing railway rails to sleepers RESSORTS DU NORD SA 30 April 1974 [3 May 1973] 18940/74 Heading E1G In a rail fastening wherein a rail flange 16 is clamped on a highly resilient pad 25 by the inner end of a rectangular or other resilient plate 1 (or plate assembly) whose outer end bears on the sleeper T and whose central part is apertured for an anchoring bolt or screw 20, the plate is thickened around the aperture to provide a central or offset humped boss 4 with a rounded peak for bearing pivotally against the underside of the anchoring screw head or nut. The aperture may be circular or slotted. The underside of the plate may be initially planar or have a downward hump opposed to, or offset from, the boss 4 for bearing against the sleeper. In a modification, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the single plate 1 is replaced by two superposed plates of different length, of which the lower is of constant thickness. In Fig. 4 (not shown) a rail is laterally located in a recessed concrete sleeper by an L-shaped insulator (36). In Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) an L-shaped insulator (54) on a metal sleeper bears against an integral or bolted-on upstanding lateral abutment, the clamping plate (41) being curved downwardly over the abutment to reach the sleeper surface.
