Abstract

867,114. Spring clips. F. T. PRODUCTS Ltd. July 6, 1959 [July 25, 1958], No. 24066/58. Class 44. A fastener 10, for holding, for example, a printed circuit board 24 on a chassis 25, is formed from a single strip of resilient material, e.g. spring steel, which is bent about transverse lines so as to have an intermediate portion 16, 17 of L-shape, at the free end of the horizontal stem 16 of the L a portion 11 of 'inverted U-shape comprising a pair of limbs 13, 14 joined by a web 12 and opening downward relative to the L, and a portion 18 of channel-section at the free end of the vertical stem of the L opening rearwardly relative to the L. The chassis 25 comprises panels 29 having upper and lower flanges 31 and 32 respectively joined by a web 30, each panel having a series of apertures 33 spaced at intervals therealong, and the board 24 is provided along its periphery with recesses 26 spaced at intervals equal to the spacing of the apertures 33. The fastener is engaged in one of the apertures 33 with the portion 11 over the bottom edge of the aperture, the portion 11 having formed therein a dimple 15 for frictionally gripping the panel, and the portion 18 has its lower limb 20 pressing against the underside of the flange 31. A similar fastener is provided in each of the other apertures, and when the board 24 is to be attached to the chassis 25 the portion 18 of each fastener is manually moved outwardly of the chassis to allow the board to be positioned thereon; each fastener is then moved back so that the board and the upper flange 31 is gripped in the portion 18 which is received in one of the recesses 26 on the board.
