Rods 6b 7b rigid with the cylinder! are connected at their for ward ends to a bracket 11 of the machine. Similar bu rearwardly extending rods 5b, 8b (not shown), are con nected with a bracket 11a of the machine. Each grip 9, 13, comprises a rubbei sleeve 10 surrounded by a fluid filled cylinder a In operation, when fluid pressure is applied to the forward cylinder a, the chain is gripped and further fluid pressure is applied to cylinders 5, 8. Pressure if then released and applied to the rearward cylinder a and to the cylinders 6, 7.
