Class 48 A trawl comprises auxiliary stabilizing boards 10 each connected by a yoke 12 to a swivel 25 connected by a yoke 23, 23a to points near the upper and lower edges of an otterboard 1 towards its leading edge, the upper member 23 of the second yoke being shorter than the lower member 23a so that the stabilizing board prevents the otterboard from capsizing. The first yoke 12 is connected to flexible tees 8, 9 connected by a cable or metal bar 11, the points 14, 15 of attachment of the yoke 12 to the ties 8, 9 being in a plane perpendicular to the stabilizing board at one third of the length of the board from the leading edge. The stabilizing board may be round, oval or square; it has floats 26 towards its upper edge and a weight 13 towards its bottom edge. Fig. 9 (not shown) shows a trawl net having otterboards and stabilizing boards as described above and having two elevator boards on the headrope. Steel cables extend from the elevator boards to the otterboards. Floats may be mounted on the sides of the opening of the net and on the middle of the headrope. The shape of the mouth is trapezordal and the ground rope is shorter than the headrope. The net may have a single elevator board on the headrope so that the shape of the mouth is triangular. The sides of the mouth of the net slope backwards upwardly. Specification 851,832 is referred to.
