Abstract
856,607. Reciprocating generators. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. July 2, 1959 [July 2, 1958], No. 22721/59. Class 35. An electrical pulse generator comprises a closed cylinder 12 having a fixed permanent magnet 14 which holds magnetically a further magnet 15, the latter being repelled by the approach of a control magnet 13 to pass through coil 17 giving a voltage pulse. To produce a current impulse the magnet 13 is pushed down through a push button 11 extending through cover plate 10 and when the repulsion of magnet 13 overcomes the attraction of magnet 14, the magnet 15 moves downward with a snap-action. In another embodiment two magnets 24, 27 are attached to a cylinder 25 passing through a soft iron body 26, the lower magnet being attached to the body by repulsion from a permanent magnet 28. On operation of the button 20 the repulsion of magnet 22 forces the cylinder down and a voltage pulse is generated in a pair of coils 23 which may be connected in series or may be separate. The control magnet 13 of Fig. 1 may be replaced by a spring connected between the push button 11 and magnet 15.
