Abstract
856,235. Mixing liquids. KOPPENS, L. P. April 24, 1959 [April 25, 1958], No. 13984/59. Class 86 [Also in Group XVIII] A pre-selected amount of a dosing liquid is mixed with a pre-determined amount of a main fluid, e.g. lubricating oil and petrol, in self-service apparatus, as described, a coin-freed apparatus, in which the two liquids are pumped separately and simultaneously to a chamber 8 and are mixed whilst issuing through perforations 7 to the main chamber 9 from which they are drained to the vehicle tank, on depression of a lever 23 by the customer, past a valve 19 displaceable by a rod 22. The oil pump 233 is driven by a motor through gearing 35, 36 and the petrol pump diaphragm 49 is driven by a connecting-rod 50, the pumps having excess pressure bypass relief valves 242, 54. The oil is metered by apparatus 200 comprising a plunger 208 controlled by a slide valve 205, oil being pumped to the pipe 13 by both sides of the plunger. In the starting position shown in Fig. 5, oil pumped through pipe 232, passage 204, and pipe 206 to the space 207, forces the plunger to the right to eject oil to the pipe 13 through pipe 211, port 212 and pipe 237, the quantity of oil delivered depending upon the setting of the rod 217 which is controlled by a cam 225 connected to a calibrated dial adjusted by the customer. The rod 217 stops the plunger 208, pressure builds up in the pump and is transferred, by connection 218, to the space 228; the detent 214 is overcome and the slide valve 205 moves to the right. The pipe 232 is connected by the passage 204 with the pipe 211 and the plunger 208 begins its return, the oil in the space 207 being ejected through the port 219 to the pipe 13. When the plunger 208 is stopped, the pressure build-up is relieved by the valve 242. The valve 205 is returned to its starting position by the rod 224 being pressed inwardly when the customer operates the lever 23. The pump motor is started by a micro-switch closed by the insertion of the coin, and the motor is stopped, when the container 9 is full, by a pressure switch 72 which functions to release the micro-switch and to allow the coin to fall into a position in the coin guide in which the lever 23 is freed for depression. The capacity of the container 9 is adjusted by a displacer which can be screwed or slid up and down in the cover 2, secured and sealed in position; or the top cover may be arranged telescopically in the casing 1, with corresponding provision for adjusting the lengths of the inner cylinder 4 and the push rod 22. The pressure switch 72 is constructed to allow air to escape therethrough when the container 9 is being filled, but to seal when petrol reaches it. An air-inlet valve 73 is opened by the lever 23 when the container 9 is being drained. The apparatus may be modified to allow the customer to select one of a number of lubricating oils. An alternative oil pump may be driven by the end 34a of the shaft 34.
