Class 130 [Also in Group XXX] Axially aligned sets of differing filter elements and/or hollow tubes A, B, Fig. 1, assorted by having been shuffled as in Specification 842,491, are discharged by cam-operated plungers 14, Fig. 2, from a grooved drum 10 into a channel 16 from which pegs 18 of a chain conveyer 19 sweep them into a tube 21 where chamfered pegs 26 of a chain conveyer 24 which have a one way action keep them in mutual contact whilst they pass on a paper web 29 and a supporting tape through a garniture where the web is wrapped and glued around them to form a continuous rod from which an orbital disc knife cuts off filter rod lengths. To ensure that cut-off is between or central of filter elements, a motor drives the knife through gearing of invariable ratio and the drum 10 and conveyers 19, 24 through gearing of manually varable ratio.
