Abstract

1399634 Making composite filters HAUNI-WERKE KORBER & CO KG 24 July 1972 [26 July 1971 (2) 10 Sept 1971] 34550/72 Heading A2C Combination tobacco-smoke filter rods each consisting of at least two filter plugs of a first filter material and at least one interposed disc of porous second material are made by continuously moving a tube in a feed path in its transverse direction and supplying axially and successively the requisite number of filter plugs and discs during the transverse movement. Apparatus; for continuously making the filters may comprise a continuously operating conveyor e.g. grooved drum 8, with holders 9 for tubes 11, a continuously operable second feeder 12a consisting of a pull-off device 13a, punching device 14a and an intermediate conveyor 16a in the form of a perforated wheel 17a with holders 18a for filter discs 19 (see Fig 2) a continuously operable feeder 12b consisting of pull-off device 13b, a punching device 14b and an intermediate conveyor 16b in the form of a perforated wheel 17b with holders 18b for filter discs 14 and a take off means 23 with holders 22 for finished filters 21 which cooperates with heating drum 24. Associated circular cutters 26, 27 have planes which run perpendicularly to the axes of filter rods 6. As will be seen in Figs 3a, 3b a plunger conveyor 62, tube conveyor 63, filter rod conveyor 64 and further plunger conveyor 66 are arranged around a common vertical shaft 61 and operate synchronously to introduce filter plugs 6a, 6b, 6c and filter discs 14, 19 into tubes 11.
