853,779. Sanitary and hygienic devices. ORRELL, W. May 19, 1959 [June 11, 1958], No. 18594/58. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group VI] An appliance for use in disinfecting a telephone comprises means for attaching a holder component 14 of the device to the body 10 of the telephone, said holder having at one side thereof a cylindrical chamber 15 for receiving a container 24 of pressurized disinfectant and provided with a duct 17 in communication with a release valve 24a of said container 24, said duct terminating in an enlarged discharge opening 18 in register or alignment with the mouthpiece 13 of the telephone. A seating 15a for the release valve 24a is formed at one end of the chamber 15 and opens into the duct 17. Actuation of the release valve of the disinfectant container is effected by means of a press button 20a and a push-rod 20 which slide through a screw-threaded cap 19 at the rear of the chamber 15 and move a disc 21 screwed to the rod 20. A spring 23 biases said pressbutton 20a outwardly. The disinfectant used should be such that it will be rapidly converted on emission into gaseous or aerosol form before reaching the mouthpiece 13. The device is suitable for use with the telephone earpiece as well.
