Abstract
Hevea field latex is preserved by adding thereto, preferably immediately after tapping, boric acid associated with one third to three times the stoichiometric quantity of ammonia required to replace the three hydrogen atoms in boric acid, in an amount which is 0,02 to 0,2% by weight of the treated latex. Alternatively the storage period of ammoniated latex containing up to 0,3% by weight of ammonia may be increased by adding 0,05 to 0,2% by weight of boric acid. Lightly ammoniated concentrated field latex containing 0,1 to 0,3% by weight of ammonia may be preserved by adding 0,1 to 0,4% of boric acid and a sequestering agent such as the ammonium salt of ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid. A bactericide such as sodium pentachlorphenate, turkey red oil, and ammonium laurate may also be added. Specification 800,089 is referred to.
