Abstract

Aqueous hydrogen peroxide solutions are stabilized by incorporation of a magnesium salt of an amino poly carboxylic acid having the general formula: <FORM:0852102/III/1> where R is an aliphatic or aromatic radical containing one or more oxygen, sulphur or nitrogen atoms. The substituent R may also contain one or more carboxyl groups, one or more of which, if salified, are salified with magnesium. The magnesium salt may be added to the hydrogen peroxide solution e.g. solutions used in industrial bleaching baths, in proportions of preferably 0.1 to 5 gms./litre. The use of di-magnesium ethylenediamine tetraacetate, sesqui - magnesium nitrilo - triacetate, sesqui - magnesium hydroxy ethylethylene diamine triacetate, the magnesium salt obtained by salifying 3, 4 or 5 carboxyl groups of diethylene-triamine pentaacetic acid with magnesium, magnesium anthranilic-N,N-diacetate, or mono-magnesium hydroxyethyliminodiacetate are referred to.
