Class 129 In a coffee-making machine wherein the or each dispensing head has a. circulation chamber communicating with a boiler and, through controllable means, with an infusing chamber containing coffee powder, each head is fixed direct to the frame of the machine and the upper and lower parts respectively of the chamber are in communication with the boiler by means of a draw-off tube at the normal level of the water therein and a return tube at the lowest permissible level of such water. As shown, each head has a cylinder 22 with a piston 23 which controls the passage of liquid from a duct 7 leading to a chamber 6 in the neck and has a sealing ring 25 constantly above duct 7. The chambers of heads A and B are connected together by a connection 8 and by draw-off tubes 9 to the boiler 5. The chambers are also connected together by a connection 12 and one chamber is connected by a return tube 13 to the boiler: Any number of heads can be connected to one return tube but not more than two heads are connected to one draw-off tube. Any one of the heads can be cut out of the system for maintenance. Separating chamber 6 from duct 7, Fig. 3, there may be a valve 14 with a stem 15 projecting through a stuffing box 16. The valve 14 is held closed by a spring 17 and is opened, through the medium of stem 15 by an arm 18 of a double armed lever 18, 19 whose other arm enters cylinder 22 and is engaged by a guided movable part 24 which is lifted when piston 23 rises. On the downward dispensing stroke of the piston, the valve 14 prevents coffee-contaminated water returning to the boiler.
