Abstract

850,675. Multiple hearth furnaces. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. March 11, 1959 [March 12, 1958], No. 8478/59. Class 51 (2). Even distribution of heat in a multiple hearth furnace 1 for roasting pyrites is assisted by extracting gases through valve-controlled pipes 10a, 10b, 10c from hearths below the top hearth, cooling them in a waste heat boiler 8, and recirculating them to lower-middle hearths through valve-controlled pipes 12a, 12b, 12c. Roasting gas is withdrawn as usual from the top hearth through a pipe 7 which also enters the waste heat boiler. Air used to cool the central rotary shaft 4 passes through an economiser 4a and pipe 5 to be introduced as primary air into the bottom hearths by branch pipes 5a, 5b.
