Abstract
849,658. Automatic circuit - breakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. Jan. 2, 1957 [Jan. 19, 1956], No. 1852/56. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXV] A latching device particularly for a circuitbreaker has a C-shaped portion 3 fixed on a rotatable spindle 2 on a fixed member 1, and an arm 5 pivoted at 6 on a movable member 4 which is urged in direction Y. The arm 5 carries a roller 8 which is retained in the C- shaped member in the position shown, with the roller and spindle substantially coaxial, and is released when the spindle 2 is rotated so that the edge A of the C-shaped portion takes up position B. In Fig. 2 the C-shaped member has its inner surface eccentric to the spindle axis to bias the latch to the released position, a spring or gravity force being applied to the spindle to maintain it in the latching position. The eccentricity may, however, be reversed so as to produce a force tending to increase the engagement between the detent and roller. Alternatively the spindle may be on the movable member and the arm on the fixed member.
