Abstract
845,385. Air-break isolating switches. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. May 22, 1958 [June 28, 1957], No. 16449/58. Class 38 (5). An isolating switch has a contact-carrying arm 7 which is pivoted on a shaft 8 carried by a frame 5 and is operated by a crank 6 and links 11 pivoted at 10 to the arm and at 12 to the crank 6. When the switch is open, the arm 7 is horizontal and the shafts 10, 12 are in the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 3 in which the toggle formed by the links 11 and crank 6 is collapsed. When the switch is closed by the anticlockwise rotation of the crank 6, the ends of the shaft 10 engage with inclined edges 13 of the frame to cause the links 11 to turn slightly about the shaft 12 so that as the closing movement is completed, the shaft 10 slides in slots 15 in the arm 7 and moves a rod 9 to clamp the moving contacts against the fixed contact (not shown). Stops 16 and 17 carried respectively by the frame 5 and arm 7 limit the movements of the arm 7 and the crank 6, the toggle 6, 11 being slightly overset when the switch is fully closed.
