Abstract

843,131. Oil trapping booms. WARNE & CO., Ltd., W. June 4, 1958 [June 4, 1957; Aug. 30, 1957], Nos. 17786/57 and 27439/57. Classes 9(2) and 68(2) A boom for trapping liquid floating on the surface of water comprises a rubberized canvas tube 1 about 8 inch diameter and # inch wall thickness, which is inflated with air at a pressure of about 3 lbs/in<SP>2</SP>. The tube has a fire-proof covering and supports a chain 3, which weighs about 21bs/ft run, by links 2. The chair ensures that the tube sinks when deflated to allow the passage of a ship and is also used to haul the boom into position. In a modification the links 2 are replaced by a curtain 4 which supports the chain. In a further modification a tube 7 which has nozzles 8 is fixed to the main tube and is connected to a source of fireextinguishing liquid.
