Abstract
854,627. Floating landing stages. LATIMERNEEDHAM, C. H. May 1, 1959 [Feb. 7, 1958], No. 4012/58. Class 68(2). [Also in Group XXXIII] A floating platform for the embarkation of pasengers in inflated life-rafts, comprising a peripheral inflated tube 3 and a floor 4, is connected to the ship's side by a scrambling sheet 1 having inflated side tubes 2, the width of the sheet 1 being approximately equal to that of the platform. The outer edge of the platform is arranged with one or more cut-outs for the temporary housing of life-rafts during boarding operations. Means may be provided for releasing the platform from the sheet 1 or alternatively for releasing the sheet 1 from the ship's side so that the platform may be used as a life-raft. In the latter case the sheet 1 may form a boarding apron for passengers in the water. When used as a raft the platform may be provided with a canopy. The platform may be divided to form a number of rafts which may be separated from the sheet 1 and each other. The sheet 1 may be provided with more than two tubes 2. The inflation means may be from the ship's supply system and inflation of the platform tube 3 may be via the sheet tubes 2. The tube 3 may inflate prior to entry into the water.
