Abstract
833,777. Valves. HALL & CO. Ltd., M. June 5, 1958 [March 19, 1957], No. 9035/57. Class 135. A quick-release valve 16<SP>1</SP> which is allowed to move away from its seat 30 to allow communication between inlet 2 from a high-pressure system to an outlet 3 to e.g. a sprinkler system, comprises a main valve head part 16, 161 normally held closed by holding members 5 and a second valve part 15 held against displacement and release of the holding members by a fusible strut, and has the holding members engaging a casing seating 4<SP>1</SP> and an opposed seating 19 on the second valve part such that the thrust of the system pressure on the valve head is transmitted in radial direction on to the second valve part. The thrust is transmitted through the valve head and three or more balls 5 on to the sloping seat 4<SP>1</SP> from whence the thrust is transmitted horizontally through the balls positioned in locating holes 18 in a skirt 17 on the valve head on to the surface 19 of the second valve part which has been thrust upwardly by the strut against spring 23 into abutment with the part 15<SP>1</SP>. On displacement of the strut spring 23 moves the second part 15 downwards to an extent allowed by the lost motion device 26, the balls are displaced inwardly through the holes 18 to rest on the cam surface 22 of the second part, and the valve opens downwardly under system pressure.
