Abstract
865,788. Valves. NEUE ARGUS G.m.b.H. Nov. 10, 1958 [Aug. 11, 1958], No. 36040/58. Class 135. A spherical plug cock comprises a body 1, 2, Fig. 1, containing a spherical plug 3, flow passages 9 and a non-deformable sealing ring 10 guided in a groove in the body part 2 and loaded against the plug by fluid pressure. The admission of fluid under pressure into the annular groove is governed by a valve comprising a ball 17 slidable in a cylinder 11, Fig. 2, contained within the body part 2. When flow through the valve is from right to left, fluid enters the cylinder 11 by a passage 11<SP>1</SP> and the ball is forced upwards to seal the passage 12, at the same time admitting fluid under pressure to the passage 20 communicating with the annular groove and space behind the sealing ring 10. When flow is from left to right the passage 12 is open to admit fluid to the back of the sealing ring and the passage 11<SP>1</SP> is closed by the ball. The sealing ring may also be loaded by a spring 16 acting on a pressure ring 15 and a resilient ring 14. The ball 17 may be replaced by a piston and the valve may be housed in the sealing ring 10 instead of in the body part 2.
