Abstract
833,222. Two-part couplings. SHAW, J. S. April 3, 1957 [Jan. 14, 1956], No. 1345/56. Class 38 (1). Connection between the plug pins 4 and the conductors 10 of a cable are made by pins 6 on connection bars 5 which pierce the cable insulation when a resilient pad 11 presses on the cable on the closing of hinged lid 2. The conductors lie in individual grooves 8 in an adaptor 7 having apertures for the pins 6 which adaptor may be changed for different diameter conductors. The lid is retained closed by integral resilient members 12 which snap into corresponding recesses in the plug shell 1, and is locked by a bolt 13 accessible only when the plug is out of the socket. Another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), describes a plug to be inserted in a lampholder. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 the cover 32 is provided with a lip 33 and is clamped to the shell 30 by screws, projections 40 pressing on the cable conductors. Alternatively, Fig. 11, the cover 50 has tapered flanges 53 which slide in grooves 53 in the shell 51, the cover being locked in position by means accessible only from the base of the plug.
