Abstract
830,740. Liquefaction of gases. CONSTOCK LIQUID METHANE CORPORATION. Oct. 9, 1958, No. 32306/58. Class 8(2). A process for liquefying natural gas containing mostly methane and available at high pressure e.g. 2000 p.s.i. comprises passing it through a duct 1 to an expansion turbine 3 discharging into a chamber 4 from which condensed impurities are withdrawn through a duct 5 and the so cooled gas is passed through a duct 6 to a heat exchanger 7 whence it is warmed in counter current to itself after being compressed at 10 cooled at 12 freed of acid vapours at 17, 17a cooled in coil 7 of exchanger 8 .and expanded in a turbine 20 to produce cold wet gas containing liquefied methane. Glycol is injected through a duct 2 to prevent freezing of impurities in chamber 4.
