830,180. Roof lights. ROBERTSON THAIN Ltd. Sept. 9, 1957 [Sept. 21, 1956], No. 29002/56. Class 20(3) A roof light for a building comprises a rectangular frame 1 formed of sheet metal members 2 which are bracketed together at the corners and are folded along their lower edges to form inner and outer flanges 3, 4, two panes of glass, not shown, being supported on the flange 3 and the flanges of an inverted T-shaped member 5 which is bracketed to the end members 2 and is supported on the end flanges 3. An outer frame 7 supporting a transparent cover 13 is telescopically received over the upper part of the frame 1 and is secured by bolts and nuts 14, the bolts passing through corresponding slots 15 in the inner and outer frames 1, 7. The sides 8 and shaped end plates 11 of the outer frame 7 have outwardly bent lower flanges 9, 12 respectively, inwardly directed flanges 10 being provided along the top of the sides 8. In fitting the roof light to a flat roof the flanges 4 of the inner frame 1 are located under the outer surface, e.g. corrugated iron sheets, the outer flanges 9, 12 of the outer frame 7 being adjusted to rest upon an outer overlying water-proof layer e.g. of bituminuous nature. The joints between the flanges 9, 12 and the upper water-proof layer are sealed, e.g. with bitumen.
