Abstract

590,012. Structural members for buildings. CARRUTHERS, J. R. Feb. 9, 1945, No. 3264. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] In a structural member (shown end on) for use in forming a framework for walls, floors or ceilings, comprising a pair of sheet metal plates 1 and a filling 2 of timber, fibre board, asbestos board, insulating board &c. which may be attached to the plates by clips or by adhesive material, a marginal portion 3 of plate projects beyond the filling along both side edges and is provided with locking clips 5 each adapted to engage one leg of an L-section strip 6 attached at an edge of a panel (not shown). In the form shown the strips are fixed securely to the structural members due to the corrugations 8 and 9 in the strips 6. The members may form a lattice framework supporting panels on each side, and also supporting an intermediate insulating layer. According to the Provisional Specification the squares of the lattice may be in staggered relation, and the panels may be secured by means of a single spring clip co-operating with the L-shaped strips of adjacent panels.
