Abstract

829,806. Knitting. SCOTT & WILLIAMS Inc. May 16, 1957 [June 12, 1956], No. 15560/57. Class 74 (2). A guard member 79 is attached to the dial of a two or more feeder circular machine having welt transfer bits slidably mounted in the dial. A downwardly projecting guard portion 80 extends below the level of the bottom of the bits and encloses them in their retracted position for the majority of the circumference of the dial. A gap is left extending over one feeder and through which the transfer bits project to receive and retransfer the welt loops. By the provision of the guard portion 80 on the member 79, the transfer bits can be advanced to receive the alternate needle loops of the first course fed at the first feeder. As the welt bits are withdrawn prior to feeding the second course at the second feeder the guard portion 80 encloses the bits holding their loops and serves to hold these loops down to prevent them slipping off the bits as the needles rise to receive the next course and subsequent courses. On completion of the second course the sinker webs can also now engage their loops to hold the fabric down prior to knitting the next and subsequent courses. Specifications 102,711, 488,241 and 704,843 are referred to.
