Abstract
826,901. Ammunition fuzes. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. May 9, 1958 [May 13, 1957], No. 14859/58. Class 9(1) A hollow charge projectile is described in Specification 722,646 in which, before firing a detonator 10 is secured in a holder 13 behind the explosive charge by locking balls whose escape is prevented by a spring-stressed sleeve 14, the insertion of the sleeve causing it to set back to free the balls on firing, whereupon the detonator moves forward into a cavity within the charge. The invention provides positive means for holding the detonator in the forward position. The base 16 of the holder 13 has a through passage in which can slide a rigid tube 18 having a flanged head 19 held between the detonator 10 and a packing ring 20 bearing against the base 16. After the balls 11 are released and the projectile starts to decelerate, the detonatcr moves forward followed by the tube 18 until the detonator abuts a sleeve 21 and the tube 18 is within the holder 13. A projection 23 of the sleeve 21 is then engaged in a block 24 integral with the detonator so that an opening 25 in the block is aligned with the passage 22 through the sleeve 21 to transmit flash from the nose fuze to the detonator 10. The tube 18 takes up an eccentric position in the holder whereby return of the detonator to the holder is prevented.
