Abstract
1,065,328. Detonators. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. Nov. 29, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 47337/63. Heading F3A. A detonator comprises a relatively thickwalled capsule having a stepped bore containing a charge, and a striker pin which enters a wider part of the bore to strike the charge. A turned or moulded thick-walled capsule (1) which has a bore (5) merging via a tapered step (6) into a narrower bore (7), contains a charge (2) retained by a thin foil (3). A pin (4), of diameter only slightly less than that of the narrower bore (7), is forced through the foil (3) to ignite the charge and substantially close the inner end of the narrower bore (7) so that the detonation flash passes through the open end (7a) to ignite the main charge of a projectile. In a described embodiment the pin has a diameter considerably less than the narrower bore and is fitted with an annular collar which seats on the step during detonation. Another embodiment has a larger diameter bore at each end connected by a narrower bore by way of two tapered steps, either one of the larger diameter ends being suitable to receive the pin.
