Abstract
825,412. Extruding. HYDRAULIK G.m.b.H. Aug. 26, 1957, No. 26920/57. Class 83 (4). A device for cooling the movable mandrel 10, Fig. 7, of a tube extrusion press, particularly for producing steel tubes, comprises a coolant spray 1 adapted to be positioned between the billet receiver 4 and the extrusion ram 9 when the latter is retracted, the device also serving to eject the extrusion residue 5 from the receiver bore, Fig. 8 (not shown). The coolant which may be wet steam or compressed-air is supplied to a chamber 2 from which it issues as a spray through ducts 3 to cool the mandrel, which is reciprocated therethrough, and through conduits 20 to cool the ram 9. After retraction of the ram following the extrusion stroke, the cooling device 1 is swung in between the ram and receiver and the latter is then moved rearwardly by piston rods 8 from its extrusion position abutting the die-holder 6, Fig. 6 (not shown). A saw 18 severs off the discard which remains in the extrusion die 5 and further rearward movement of the receiver causes a removable plate 11 on the cooling device 1 to remove the die and discard, Fig. 8 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 4, a residue shell 14a remains in the receiver after extrusion. This is severed from the residue butt 14b upon retraction of the receiver, Fig. 2 (not shown), and is subsequently expelled by the cooling device 1. The butt 14b is severed from the face of the die 5 by means 22. In another embodiment, Fig. 10, the cooling device 1 has additional spray ducts 20, 23 for cooling the receiver 4. A removable ejector plate 11 is used for expelling the shell 14a. The cooling device may be moved by the ram 9 relatively to a stationary receiver for expelling the shell or butt therefrom; the cooling device is returned by a spring upon retraction of the ram.
